About the Grant

What is FETF22?

FETF22 is one of the productivity items listed under the government’s Farming Equipment and Technology Fund 2026. It covers 50% of the cost of a qualifying rainwater harvesting system for crop irrigation, up to a maximum grant of £3,517. The scheme is available to farmers and growers in England only, and applications are scored — FETF22 has a score of 63 out of 100.

The expected average cost used by the RPA is £7,034. If the system costs more than this, the grant is capped at 50% of that figure. If it costs less, the grant covers 50% of the actual cost paid. The FETF 2026 rainwater harvesting grant is one of several productivity items available under the wider FETF scheme.

50% BACK

The RPA’s expected average cost for this item is £7,034. Grant payments are 50% of this figure, or 50% of the actual cost if lower. The grant amount is based on cost at the time of purchase — VAT is not included.

Grant Eligibility Checklist

To qualify under FETF22, the installation must meet all of the following criteria as set out in the official specification.

Rainwater harvesting system for crop irrigation
The system must be used for crop irrigation — not general water storage.

Water tank with a minimum 50,000L (50m³) capacity
The minimum is 50,000 litres. See the size guide below for configurations that meet this.

2-stage pre-filter system for removing debris and soil
This must be included as part of the installation. It is not sufficient to have the tank alone.

Electric pump to distribute water to the growing crops
This must be included as part of the installation. It is not sufficient to have the tank alone.

Storage tank of circular galvanised steel with a liner and cover
The specification explicitly lists circular galvanised steel with a liner and cover as an eligible tank type. Evenproducts MagiZinc® corrugated steel tanks fall within this category.

!
Installed and operational at time of claim
The claim can only be submitted once the system is fully installed and operational. This is worth flagging to customers early — they will need to allow time for delivery and installation before they can apply.

Installation requirement

The RPA requires that the system is fully installed and operational at the time the claim is submitted. Customers should factor in lead times and installation when planning their application timeline.
